FAQs

Colon hydrotherapy, also known as a colonic, is a safe and effective method for cleansing the colon by gently flushing it with warm water. This process helps to eliminate waste materials from the colon, promoting better digestive health and overall well-being.

The colon, or large intestine, is the final part of the digestive tract. Measuring approximately 5 ft in length, it’s main functions are to eliminate waste and conserve water. Additionally, beneficial bacteria in the colon produce essential nutrients like Vitamin K and parts of the Vitamin B complex. Did you know the small intestine is approximately 20 ft long ?

Over time, waste material like impacted faeces, dead cells, mucus, and even parasites can build up in the colon, which may lead to toxicity and sluggish bowel movements. Colon hydrotherapy helps to remove this toxic buildup, improving the colon’s function and your overall health.

Common symptoms include headaches, backaches, constipation, fatigue, bad breath, body odour, skin issues, bloating, and diarrhoea. Many people experience these symptoms, which often point to a buildup of toxins in the colon.

Colonics remove significant amounts of toxic waste, positively affecting the entire body. Cleansing the colon has been shown to improve overall well-being, as it helps the body’s natural detoxification processes and enhances the health of other organs.

During your treatment, several litres of filtered water are used to gently cleanse the colon. With the aid of massage and pressure points, the therapist can help remove far more waste than other short-term techniques.

  • Cleansing the Colon: Removes harmful toxins and impacted waste.
  • Exercise for Colon Muscles: Improves the colon’s natural muscular contractions, aiding in digestion.
  • Reshaping the Colon: Helps restore the colon’s natural shape by eliminating waste blockages.
  • Stimulating Reflex Points: Every system and organ in the body is connected to the colon, and colonics can positively affect these areas.

Yes, it is safe. The procedure is conducted in a private room by a trained therapist who ensures your dignity and comfort throughout. Disposable equipment is used for each session, ensuring cleanliness and safety.

Fast for at least 2 hours before your treatment for best results. It’s recommended to eat lightly 2 days before your treatment and avoid alcohol, spicy foods, and heavy meals.  Colonic irrigation exercises an involuntary muscle, you may feel very tired however you may return to work as long as it is not high impact physical work. Involuntary muscles require four times more energy than voluntary muscles. Drink plenty of water and reduce processed foods while increasing your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables. Some clients prefer to juice or eat light soups in the days leading up to their session.

After the treatment, it’s best to eat light, nourishing meals that are easy to digest, such as soups, salads, or vegetables. Avoid any foods known to cause discomfort, and drink plenty of water. Avoid going to the gym or consuming alcohol for 24 hours following your treatment. Do not consume fizzy drinks or alcohol during this time. Make sure you get to bed early after your colonic irrigation treatment as your body will need a good rest. Prepare food which will easily move through the colon. The ideal foods to eat after colonic irrigation are vegetable soup, brown rice and vegetables, quinoa, fish and white meats. Avoid large amounts of carbohydrates such as white bread, white pasta and white rice. Your colon absorbs water during the treatment so you will be hydrated. Keep hydration levels optimal by drinking at least 2 litres of water per day. This will keep your bowel moving. You may not need to pass any matter for 2 days after your colonic irrigation treatment. This is quite normal. If the bowel does not return to normal function after this time, you may need more treatments.

This depends on your individual needs and the condition of your colon. Typically, we recommend starting with three sessions spaced over 4–6 weeks. The number of sessions required may vary based on your symptoms and goals.

A well-functioning colon produces a bowel movement shortly after meals, with minimal effort. Healthy stools are large, light brown, and without offensive odour. Regular colon health can be maintained through diet, hydration, and colonics when necessary.

Colon hydrotherapy is not painful. Any discomfort is usually mild and brief, often caused by gas or waste passing through the colon. A skilled therapist ensures that the experience is as comfortable as possible.

Each session typically lasts around 60 minutes.  The treatment itself normally takes between 30 – 40 mins.

After your session, you’ll likely feel lighter, with improved energy, mood, and digestion. Some clients experience additional bowel movements later in the day, but this is not accompanied by any discomfort.

While colonics are not a weight loss treatment, clients often report feeling lighter and experiencing a decrease in bloating, which can lead to noticeable weight loss after a series of sessions.

No, laxatives and enemas do not cleanse the colon as thoroughly as colon hydrotherapy. Laxatives can irritate the digestive system, while enemas only clean the lower portion of the colon. Colon hydrotherapy cleanses the entire length of the colon, providing a deeper and more effective cleanse.

No, colon hydrotherapy does not disrupt your body’s electrolyte balance. The process mainly removes waste that has already been processed, and any minimal electrolyte loss can be easily replenished with food and fluids.
